Yum

Last night I had dinner here: http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/restaurants/review-23848717-spirit-of-rose-lives-on-at-trullo.do

and feasted on delicious antipasti, cheese and delicious wine. Having spent the last year walking past it I’ve always thought that it looked like it was full of attractive types who populate Richard Curtis movies in a sort of halcyon yellow glow, oozing bonhomie and muted glamour. Having now eaten there I can confirm that this is not an illusion- This louche and rough-round-the-edges London atmosphere is carried through across every detail, especially the food. Go, and pray you’re lucky enough to find pigeon on the menu.

Sadly I’m not Lady Gaga, so in terms of transformative accessories, I think I’ll just stick with these lush lipsticks from MAC.

I know she’s bat-shit crazy but I love Gaga, she’s completely unique, completely immersed in her worlds and completely unafraid to try extraordinary things. She’s not using sex or drugs or rock’n’roll, she’s daring to go deeper and be more subversive. Best of all, she’s not afraid to look extreme, extraordinary or ugly by sticking plates in her face or chopping her fringe to levels that even youthful and ‘quirky’ scandinavian tourists dare brave.
I totally salute her.

Dead privileged

I started (and finished) The Privileges on Sunday. Having galloped through it in 24 hours my initial reaction was that it’s blooming brilliant, but on further consideration I’m not so convinced.

Sure it’s a ripping yarn and all, a real page turner that I couldn’t put down but I suppose I’m left  feeling there are so many interesting directions it could have gone in and so many themes fighting for attention that none is explored fully.

That said, just writing this makes me want to read it again, arguably the sign of a good book.

Perhaps this review says more lucidly what I’m trying to.

These are from ‘Between Two Worlds’ currently showing at my friend Charlie’s gallery in Vicky…

According to creative review they depict the ‘diverse styles of imagery being created in Latin America’, and from these brief images, look jarringly compelling.

Have a look at their website if you feel like it:  http://www.edelassanti.com/

This on the other hand is rather less tasteful…
Barbie goes batshit crazy in amongst all the trappings of modern America; Car crash sex? check. Dildos? check. Decapitation via domestic appliances? Sure, why not. There’s something a little unsettling about these, even if they are just plastic dolls bent into poses…

It’s weird that an eye can look so moonscape-ish close up. There’s a real texture and depth to this that is both compelling and repulsive all at once!
